Third grade students in Glen Rock, NJ, from Alexander Hamilton Elementary have crowd-funded gift cards in order to donate the remaining funds on those cards to an area in need. Following Hurricane Harvey, Port Aransas, TX, students collected $137 in remaining gift card balances as a fundraiser for their school. GiftCards4Change (GC4C) is matching these third graders' collective contributions for a total gift of $500, which will be given to the elementary school to rebuild their Marlin Discovery Garden lost in the hurricane. Lowe’s in Corpus Christi, TX, has also committed to contribute donated gardening items, tools, and volunteer assistance
to help rebuild the garden.
This week GC4C presented the check to the class of third graders at H.G. Olsen Elementary School in Port Aransas, TX. GC4C delivered a check presentation ceremony where founders Andrew Ydoyaga and Dr. Shannon Ydoyaga spoke about the importance of social giving to communities in need and using gift cards with low balances as a means to serve those in need.
GC4C seeks to collect remaining small dollar gift cards to help improve the lives of people affected by poverty, human trafficking, hunger, homelessness, disability, education and other humanitarian initiatives.
All donations are 100% tax deductible for the full remaining value on the gift card. GC4C represents a unique and ambitious way of giving, to impact the lives of the under-served.
